Shopping in Girdwood, Alaska

Girdwood’s shops punch above their weight. This is the place to rent skis or a fat bike, pick up a locally made piece of art, grab groceries and provisions before heading into the backcountry, or find a gift that actually comes from Alaska rather than a cruise-terminal warehouse.

The valley’s gear shops know the local terrain intimately. Ask them about conditions and they’ll tell you where to go. Artists and makers sell straight out of small studios and galleries, and the general stores carry everything from wine to bug spray.
