One K-8 school serves the Girdwood Valley as part of the Anchorage School District.

There is only one school in the Girdwood Valley, which is part of the Anchorage School District. Girdwood Pre-K8 goes from Kindergarten to 8th Grade and has approximately 190 students. This school consistently rates high in the district for education and quality of life for students and teachers. They also have a non-profit organization, Four Valley Schools, that helps provide funds and volunteers to supplement educational, recreational and cultural activities.

Once a child reaches high school, they attend school in Anchorage. Girdwood residents are zoned for South Anchorage High School. The drive to South High is approximately 35 minutes, and road conditions in the winter can be quite treacherous. The Anchorage School District runs a bus service within Girdwood for Pre-K8, and to Anchorage for high school students.

While a parent might find home daycare in the valley, the only daycare facility in Girdwood is Little Bear’s Playhouse.
